Meet Claire Burge

Healthcare has been part of my life for over 25 years.

I began my nursing career with the British Army, training in Portsmouth before gaining experience across a variety of healthcare settings, including acute care, urgent care, primary care and healthcare education. Throughout my career I have always been passionate about developing people, supporting colleagues and helping others build the confidence and skills they need to provide excellent patient care.

After qualifying as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Non-Medical Prescriber, I spent many years working within general practice, eventually progressing into Clinical Lead roles where I became responsible not only for patient care but also for supervising, mentoring and developing healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines.

One challenge I repeatedly encountered was the lack of accessible, practical training designed specifically for primary care teams. Whilst there were many training providers available, much of the education was either expensive, difficult to access, or not tailored to the realities of working in a busy GP practice.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted this gap even further. Healthcare Assistants, nurses and administrative teams were being asked to develop new skills and adapt rapidly to changing demands, yet finding affordable, high-quality training that was relevant to primary care remained a challenge.

This led to the creation of GP Practice Training Ltd.

What began as a small project focused on Healthcare Assistant development has grown into a comprehensive training academy supporting healthcare professionals across the UK. Today, our courses cover a wide range of clinical and non-clinical topics, including Healthcare Assistant development, Phlebotomy, ECGs, INR testing, Ear Care, Wound Care, Spirometry, Menopause, Injection Training and many more.

What makes our training different is that it is written by someone who still does the job.

Alongside running GP Practice Training Ltd, I continue to work clinically as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Lead within primary care. This means every course is developed with real-world practice in mind, combining current evidence, national guidance and practical experience gained from working directly with patients and healthcare teams every day.

My aim has always been simple: to provide affordable, practical and engaging training that gives healthcare professionals the confidence, knowledge and skills they need to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.

Whether you are taking your first steps as a Healthcare Assistant, expanding your clinical skills, or developing your career within primary care, I am delighted to support you on your learning journey.
